Thank you
It looks nice.
If the insert comes out, I would paint the gold trim to a hammered bronze. If you are looking to do something with the brick, there are plenty of ideas on brick makeovers on Pinterest.
You might be thinking it's too much brick. You might like it better if you add a wood mantle and cover the adjacent brick walls with wood or wall board.
Is there a stack? Is it possible the fire place was a real one prior to being converted to unvented? If it was you may want to talk to a chimney sweep. If not what is on the other side of the wall? There has to be an outside wall for venting, I believe. Contact gas fireplace sales. A hole will need to be drilled to the outside then a stack added to get it up above roof level or whatever is needed for code in your area.
Check with this old house or the handyman for ideas on converting the fireplace. The venting outside might be a problem unless this is the outside wall then it will be a lot simpler. Check with dealerships in the area when buying the new insert and they can help with what needs to be done. I like the brick but see adding a wooden mantle and some shelves to the side. It will be wonderful when changed.
