How can I get rid of bugs on my firewood before bringing it indoors?
Before bringing in firewood full of hidden bug eggs & termites, it should be sprayed many weeks before then. Years ago, Diazanon was the pesticide to use, outside and let it air-out 6-8 weeks before burning the firewood. Diazinon is long/gone. So what do you spray on your firewood to keep the bugs from hatching in your house? Ive literally thrown the firewood on the patio to dislodge the crawling critters on the outside, but that’s not enough. Yes, I have wood boxes under the eaves, close to the house & that may be all I can do- is leave it outside and let the cold air in to get more firewood.

How do you get rid of sink/drain flies?
I would like to know how to get rid those pesty little sink/drain flies. I've tried baking soda and vinegar, drain cleaners and put plastic over the drains.
Hi Cheryl I heated with a wood stove for 3 years in the house and I never did figure out the best way of dealing with the pests that came in with it. The flies especially were just crazy and so gross!
We have never treated our wood. Granted it is delivered to a separate location, about 5 miles away. I just go up and get a garbage can full at a time. Rats, mice, rattlesnakes, black widows are more of a concern as it is hot and very very dry here. We purchase a year in advance, meaning the wood we purchased last fall is what we will burn this winter. What we just purchased will be used next year. See if this helps.

How I wish I only had to worry about bug eggs & termites!
Here in Arizona(yes it gets cold here)we have Black Widows,Scorpions,& Brown Recluse. Keeping the wood in house in gigantic plastic tub with lid keeps what ever pests contained then when I'm bringing wood in house to put in tub/w lid I always carry it inside a 5 gallon bucket or larger plastic tub (depends if it's kindling or pieces & the size)so if any creepy crawlies are in or on it they'll at least fall into something and not house You should never spray the wood with any chemicals no matter how long they have dried or sat & cured when you burn them it releases the fumes.
