How to divide large room?
I am moving into a new house soon. It has a large room that I want to use as a craft/art studio and a yoga\aerobics space. (The fire won't be there, it is just a plain wall behind it) I'm thinking of 'wheeled' dividers or an idea were I can easily open it up into one big room?? I'm thinking wheeled bookcases then I can use them as storage for craft stuff, and wallpaper the backs to look nice in the yoga side. [I DO NOT like clutter] Pls has anyone got any ideas or pictures of similar projects?? Thanks in anticipation ;)(the room will be redone very pale and neutral. It has windows both ends, so gets a lot of light)

Have you considered replacing the carpet with hard wood or vinyl? I really like your bookcases on wheels idea. What about some full length mirrors on the wall in between the bookcases? If you are going to do yoga maybe a ceiling fan or two for air circulation.
Oh yes! The floor will be redone too! This is NOT my decor. (I haven't moved in yet)
The bookcases will be as dividers, not along the wall. Ceiling fan is a GOOD idea I never thought of thanks! :)

Wow Lynn! What a super idea...(after seeing the padded frames my head was spinning with ideas-headboard wall etc etc).. I could do something lovely for the yoga side, and (If I dare/or ever get good enough) put my own art in the studio side! ;) .. and so light and easy to move too! Thankyou!! :D
Easier yet is a simple matter of reorganization by using resources you already have: your couch that is along the wall, is a preowned room divider if you put the leather chair where the couch is.
I used old closet doors to divide a large room ..( think the louvred kind) book case on wheels sounds good ... just make sure it isn’t too heavy or gets “ front heavy”
Dwp - It's not my stuff. That is just a pic of the house now (as they have it) before i move in. It will be a art/yoga studio, but thanks
Kristi - that sounds like a nice idea (I can 'see' that' :)) but I think I need to remind myself the idea of the bookcases was storage ;) THANKS for the heads up about not making them too heavy, that cld be fun-not! haha ;)
pvc pipe across the ceiling as a divider with sheer curtains .
I have used curtains with the tie back to separate the rooms.
I think I would use a couch or chesterfield or even a chesterfield table or low unit with drawers for storage to separate the two areas. You do not want to block off any of the light. Lightening up you décor will do wonders for that space. Good Luck with your project.
I like your idea of bookcases on wheels, double duty... storage & divider....at first I was going to ask , why put a divider...but then I figured when you are relaxing and doing yoga , you don't want the distraction of an art/ craft work space , duh...
i also like the answer using the pipe along the ceiling and hanging a curtain , that way it would be easy to open it up , if you wanted to. Enjoy your space ,!!!!!!
I wouldn't use room dividers so to speak as you will cut down on the light. You can make a craft island at one end with cabinets and a big piece of butcher block or counter top. use a couple of bar stools and use all the doors and drawers for storage. I really like the wallpaper and think it is cheery for a yoga space. You are really taking a large room and using it for two purposes. I don't know how big the room is but you are going to need more space for the yoga area. I would use 2/3 of the space for yoga and 1/3 for the craft area. If needed you can use the wall for cabinets or storage along the outside wall. For Yoga and aerobics keep the area as open as possible and just make it multiuse. I'm not sure which end you enter into the room but I would think about what you want to see when you look into the room when passing it.
kitchen cabinets (I prefer the uppers) can be painted and wheels can be added. They make for great storage and can double as a buffet and a room divider.
Barbara. Super idea!! Now I never did think of that! Thanks
How much privacy does each section actually need? I would either arrange the furniture in a manner that makes the different areas appear obvious (free solution) or purchase room-divider curtains (check them out on Amazon).
