Hi Kelly,
If your doors don’t have any serious gouges or holes, then I would recommend the following steps:
1) Thoroughly clean the wood with Murphy’s oil soap. Follow label directions.
2) Generously apply an appropriately-colored Old English polish. Let it sit for a while then wipe off excess and use a clean lintless cloth to buff and polish.
Good luck and hope you were doors really shine after this treatment!
Kelly...Sand, clean and restain or paint
If they are in good shape I would just lightly sand them and add a coat of stain and then polyurethane. Good Luck!
Sand very well, getting into all crevices. Vacuum all surfaces using soft brush attachment. Tack cloth thoroughly. Apply stain carefully to avoid brush marks. Sand lightly. Tack cloth again, then apply second stain coat if needed.
Seal with a good quality polyurethane in matte/satin/gloss finish, as desired, again being careful to avoid visible brush strokes.
If the doors are exposed to intense sun or cold temps, use a Marine grade poly for U.V. protection.
Murphy's wood oil soap
Scrub really well with furniture soap. Then Scrub well with plain water. Let dry for a full 24 hours. then use a clean rag to apply a furniture oil. I like lemon oil because I like how it smells. The scrubbing will remove all muck and grime. The oil will preserve the wood and bring the grain up.
