IKEA MARGARETA VINTER CHRISTMAS TREE FABRIC DIY
A couple years ago, I started seeing this cute Christmas Tree fabric everywhere. I found it, but unfortunately, it was discontinued in US stores. Canada, you still have it at IKEA
So I started thinking about how I could make my own. And then I had an idea!
I you want to read my full blog post including all of the details of this project, you can read it here.
A couple years ago, I bought an old-school overhead projector at Goodwill and a box of transparencies off of Craig's List for a bargain price. Did you know you you can print transparencies on a regular home printer? Yep!
So I found an image of the IKEA fabric, and printed it on a transparency. Easy peezey.
I turned my kitchen into my painting studio. I bought plain white canvas material from the fabric store. Before I tacked that up the wall, I taped plastic up behind it so the green paint didn't go through to my kitchen walls.
I did not buy new brushes for this project. I used what I had laying around. The most used brush was that wide brush that came in a bag of 20 for super cheap at the hardware store. I think they are meant to be disposable.
You can read more about the paint I used and my painting technique in my original blog post.
Here are a couple of my secrets - don't paint actual branches in the tree... and don't make it perfectly symmetrical.
I recycled the wood frame from a previous DIY project, and stapled the fabric to the back side. There is a secret to getting the fabric straight and tight all the way around. I describe it more in the blog post.
Here is what it looks like all done and in my dining room! You can read more details about this fun holiday DIY over at the original blog post.
