I always think brushed nickel looks good on brown. Just choose a design that works with the rest of your kitchen.
depends on the colors already there. Most likely black or bronze would look nice. Chrome would most likely be too much of a contrast. you could go for painted china knobs, depending on existing holes and whether you want to patch them.
I think metallic vertical handles are the best for such cabinets, in a darker shade perhaps.
Anything that suits your fancy. There is no right or wrong. I have big hands and always look for knobs or handles that fit my fingers easily. What is the style of your kitchen? Modern? Traditional? Farmhouse / country? Eclectic? Whimsical? Let that be your guide.
A contrasting color is always attractive. If anyone has arthritis, consider knobs and pulls that are easily manuevered.
