How do I protect my 4x8 shop table?
I have recently made a shop table with a 4x8 piece of plywood at the top. I have sanded it nicely, but want to put some kind of protection on as a cover. Oil or water based? Is there any product that will give a good strong surface with two or three coats?

Oil based polyurethane
Tobi, we used Formica on our shop tables. It's relatively easy to put on and withstands all kinds of abuse. You can often get remnant rolls at a countertop shop.
two part EPOXY ... but anything work you do on a 'SHOP' table is a potential scratch, gouge, burn, to the surface.
water based polyurethane oil base yellows over time
Yes, you can use epoxy - which is bear to apply, but I'd use a few coats of good polyurethane. Make sure it drys thoroughly between coats. High gloss is stronger than flat.
I agree, high gloss epoxy, 3 coats.
I did mine with a high gloss enamel paint and it has held up beautifully.
