We are in desperate need of a light over our kitchen stove. What kind of light do you suggest to fit over a steel pot hanger?

Can you post a photo? Does the pot hanger obscure any space for a ceiling mounted light?
Hi Cat,
We need a visual in order to help you.
I would install a pendant light that could hang down thru the pot rack.
Depending on the pot rack, I agree with Kelli that a pendant light might be the best option. Is there an outlet nearby? A light kit and a metal basket would give you a cool look!

Most of what I see is about adding rack around the central light for kitchen.
Otherwise you would have to know how to run electric to a second location in room and have the hanging light come through the pot rack.
Or you could go swag lamp style and plug it in wall socket and run wire up wall and across ceiling; not pretty but wire can be covered over.
