Carlos...It may be a slow leak. My husband goes up on the roof with a garden hose and hopes to find it with someone inside the house at the spot. As he said, however, if it is a slow leak they can be difficult to find. If you can find shingles that are torn/broken that might be a really good clue. Good luck!

If you can get into the attic, look for damp areas to see where the leak is. If you are in a cold area and the attic is full of condensation then you require more air circulation to get rid of the frost. If you have any vents from your stove or toilet going into the attic they should be changed to go directly outside.

  • You might consider bringing in a pro for this as water leaks can come from an entirely different spot than where they show up. They're hard to track.

  • Tracing minor leaks can be a DIY process but some leaks require a roofing expert to track down. Check out my blog here https://tornadoroofingco.com/how-to-find-and-fix-a-roof-leak/ it will guide you on finding a roof leak like a pro and fix it before it worsens.

To identify leaks, check common leak areas like where previous sealing's were present as seals may have deteriorated over time. Check for cracks, thinning, worn spots, and other damage. This includes checking any sealants and/or caulk on the roof and around windows, moldings, vents, doors, skylights and roof seams. You can also hire a professional person for this task. Professional persons have different methods to detect leakage source like hydrostatic testing, tracer gas leak detection, infrared, and laser technology. Once you find leaks, you can easily repair them with the help of Liquid butyl rubber that is the best roof repairing sealant in my experience. Liquid EPDM solvent allows for a unique chemical cross link to occur whereby the solvent and the surface chemically fuse and become one resulting in a smooth seamless, leakage free membrane when completely dry. It provides an insulated barrier from leak damage to the roof along with making the roof more aesthetically pleasing.

To find the exact location of roof leaks, I advise you to seek professional help. Professional people have different methods to detect leak sources like hydrostatic testing, tracer gas leak detection, infrared, and laser technology. Once you get it, you can easily resolve all kinds of issues such as leaks or cracks with just a single coating of Liquid Butyl Rubber. After it dries, it creates a new roof with an aesthetically pleasing smooth seamless membrane for a fraction of the cost of roof replacement. This liquid rubber roof sealant not only fortifies the roof from harsh climate situations but also extends the roof’s life span for 18-20 years.

  • Before you do an external examination, start by checking the inside of your house and the attic. Locating leaks is best accomplished by searching for indicators of water damage, such as mold development on your external walls, peeling paint or wallpaper, and water stains on the ceiling or in the attic.

I would get a pro to evaluate where it is, they have the tools and the training. Plus a warranty.

Look for the wet patch on the inside and that should indicate where it is on the outside. My guess is it is time to go over the whole roof with something like ROOFIX ( a brush on repair) or replace the roof. or over cover it. Pay special attention to any fixing points on the roof..
