Thrift Store Wall Print Upcycle
Have you even seen a old, ugly framed print at a thrift store or yard sale?
If you love the frame - grab it! Here's how you can totally transform it and make it into something gorgeous that you'll be so happy with.
Here's the not-so-lovely picture that was in the frame.
Old - faded - just generally yucky.
But the frame had so much life left in it, so I decided to bring the whole thing home and give it a DIY makeover.
And here's the frame. It was strong, sturdy, and, with the exception of a couple of dings I could easily sand out, it was in perfect shape.
I gave it a few coats of a new paint color, and while it was drying I worked on the rest.
It came with a mat that was also in good shape. It really had a lot going for it except for that sad print.
I gave the mat a bright and bold paint job, then set it aside too.
The print was backed by a foam board, I was happy to learn - and it saved me the effort and expense of buying a new one.
And this is where the really fun part started! I found this pretty printed fabric and cut it to fit just slightly smaller than the mat, and secured it with adhesive craft tape.
Next I topped it with the newly-painted mat,
And slid it all back into the frame.
It's a totally different look than before, and I love how an old frame that was still in great shape had so much potential for a pretty new life!
