How do I refurbish a black sink?
I moved into a home which had a black kitchen sink. I don’t know the material it is made of. It has a dull, scoured finish like it has been scrubbed hard in areas with some abrasive. Is there anyway to bring back the luster so the whole sink looks matching and new?
Looks nicer when wet.

Hello there, Maybe you could try WD-40 or Black Car prestoreative polish or maybe Resurface the whole sink - you don't say what the sink is made of - Hard cold finish or smooth warm finish etc.........Porous or no! Maybe a Granite restorer etc?
Ha e you tried cooking oil or car wax? It worked on mine.
That is a granite composite sink. It is granite powder mixed with epoxy resins. It is almost impervious to any damage unless you drop it and break it. It appears to me that you have hard water in your location. Hard water will stain it with mineral deposits. Start by soaking the sink in vinegar. Then use a very light abrasive such as bar keeper's to remove the neglected deposits. Rinse then Shine with a dry cloth. To prevent this build up, dry the sink after every use.
For a quick fix you could try car wax. It probably would require redoing often
Thanks everyone for the ideas! I think I'll try vinegar first. I just moved to Idaho and have heard that we have hard water. Although, I do have a water softener system. .

mineral oil
I’d replace it.
I've had a black granite sink for eight years. It still looks almost brand new. Never use anything abrasive to clean it. This is what I do each week: Scrub it with a brush and dish soap (I use blue dawn), rinse well and dry. Then pour a small amount of baby oil on a rag and rub it in well. It will make it look new and smell heavenly!
The baby oil trick may not work on yours that has been scraped with something rough or cleaned with an abrasive cleaner.
I have that sink and hate it. It is granite composite and hard water is the worst thing for it. You need to clean it really well with HOT water and a little dawn. Let it dry.
Get some mineral oil, the kind you buy in the grocery store in the medicine isle. It is only $1.50. That is food safe mineral oil. for the first time rub a good amount of oil into the granite. Let sit for about an hour. Then wipe away the residue with a cloth not a paper towel. After that about every other week, rub a small amount into the sink. I have had my sink for a few years, and if I had someone to replace it I would. But all sinks have problems, SS scratched and porcelain chips.
I love mine have had it for years anything I've done to clean it worked great any of the above suggestions should work. It doesn't take that much care just some. It is a products that can withstand just about anything. I scour mine with a bathroom cleaner scrub it with a pot cleaner any stains come off then rinse. Sometimes I pour boiling water on it works too. Love the sink!!
