We didn’t trim back ou sedum plants last fall. When should we do it? We live in he upper Midwest - harsh winters.

they should die back naturally then cut or remove dead stalks at first sign of new growth; the old will protect plant and new growth in spring in case of late freeze
Peg, I have Autumn Joy Sedum that gets about 18" tall. I usually snap the stems off in the fall before it starts freezing, but I neglected to last year, so I'll do it when it starts warming up this spring.
I do not trim. I only pull off dead pieces when I see them. I ignore them all winter & many times what looks dead is growing by summer.
