Sand it very well to get off any old peeling paint. My fave railing paint is actually opaque stain. Weathers extremely well!

When I painted my change link fence I cut my time in half by dipping a large sponge in the paint tray and go up and down but do the back side fist like that you don't get paint on your self

    Hello Judith,,

If they have been painted before you may need to rub down before repainting, otherwise use a Wood Stain - Many colours available for exterior use that includes a

    preservative.

I'd visit your local stand alone paint store to see what they recommend. I used opaque stain to do my railings. Holding up great.

Hello, Careful prep and cleaning might involve pressure washing and allowing the deck components to completely dry. I would suggest following all the written instructions on the product that you’re using on your wooden deck railing to ensure a professional and pleasing result.

We have had our share of deck sealer failure so I would say choose your sealer product and follow the container label instructions carefully.

The cans instructions will provide details regarding applicator type, temperature- sunshine conditions -application rate. Some products like Behr suggest using their deck cleaner on the deck prior to the sealers application.

There are several different kinds of deck sealers to chose from there’s transparent finish semi transparent finish and solid which is like a thick paint.
