I am soooo new to this adventure and I am so excited! I had all weeds in my front and back flower areas... where do I begin? The carpet stuff? Do I put weed killer first before the carpet stuff. Thanks!

I tried weedkiller, boiling water, vinegar. Dandelions and grassen keep coming back almost instantie after removing them.
pull out as much as you can early in the year before the weeds go to seed. Then lay out a weed barrier.
Put landscape fabric down first
Weed killer will prevent your seeds from germinating. Dig the weeds out by hand or smother them. Then dig out when dead. Then you can plant whatever you wish.
Pull as much many weeds you can. Rake the rest out. Lay down some landscape fabric. Cover with about 2 to 3 inches of mulch. When your ready to plant just move the mulch in the spot. Cut an "X" in the landscape fabric. Plant your flowers and level the mulch. Do not use weed killer. It will also kill the plants.
If the area is completely empty, you can kill all the weeds with Round Up. After a few days, dig out all the dead stuff, give the soil a good deep raking to loosen it up for planting. You can choose to plant then mulch after or mulch first then plant your flowers. Either way will work. Soon you'll have a beautiful garden! Have fun :)
The landscape fabric stops the weeds from growing. Any soil placed on top of the fabric is a perfect stop for weeds to grow. Just get at the large weeds. Rake out what you can. Place the landscape over the soil. Any small weeds will be smothered and killed.
