How do I get rid of trumpet vine and English ivy?
The roots are vicious! They choked my salvia.
Ivy needs to be dug up, not pulled out. Another option is to cut to ground level and doused liberally with vinegar. If a large area, I would consider using agricultural strength vinegar. Needs to be reapplied after every rain event.
Thanks
We've used vinegar to get rid of ours, but keep in mind it will kill everything it comes into contact with...but it does work.
There are short term brush killers you spray on, but wear protective clothing. The area should be ready to replant in7-21 days, depending upon product. If you can't pull it out and dig it out, you'll have to at least disturb the root area and repeatedly spray. It can take years to eradicate large sections.
It's a laborious job, but cut the ivy down to it original root. Leave the original root stem about a foot to 2 feet tall. Wrap a paper towel that's been soaked in brush kill around the root. Around the paper towel put plastic wrap. That will keep the towel moist. This will eliminate the ivy entirely. Good luck.
wood stalked plants can only be killed with Glysophates; spray it with Round-Up put food coloring in it so you can see where you are spraying it.
Thanks
This is just the thing! I find this works wonderfully. You have to cut down the ivy and then brush this on the top of where you cut it. Bonide
