How do you keep cats out of your garden?
I live in Florida and basically have a garden all year round. This time of year is especially nice before it gets too hot!! There are a couple of stray cats that think my blood, sweat and tears (and money) are nothing but a big litter box! Someone suggested putting pine cones - but they just kick them out of the way. Someone else suggested putting a wire mesh over the exposed dirt areas... any humane suggestions?

Trap them and move them on.
Go to a dollar store and get Cayenne Pepper. Sprinkle it where you know they are going and every time it rains redo it again till they stop coming back. Good Luck!
Some say red pepper flakes or cayenne works.
Motion activated sprinkler head it'll spray them when they come into your yard/garden. Cayenne, red pepper,or any oils/spices that burn are not Humane, they just burn the animals(cats, rabbits, squirrels, birds etc. and deters some beneficial bugs/earthworms from coming in garden/soil) and mostly after it leaves the area so they don't know why they are even in agony. When they leave & go clean themselves or go to nurse their young it gets rubbed in their eyes, nose, ears, mouth and private parts even on females nipples transferring to babies faces. Also the chicken wire on ground keeps them from digging in garden and if added before flowers come up they will grow up thru the wire.Or add in strips around base of bigger already grown plants/shrubs. Most states, cities, counties now have fines for trapping and removing cats even if they are feral, some places have both $ fines and jail time it is classified as illegally dumping an animal. I work with Animal Defense League of AZ Feral cat program. Also applies to trapping many other animals even what most consider pests prairie dogs, certain squirrels, ferrets, skunk, ground hog, coyote & many others just depends where you live. Also check for local TNR programs about getting all cats spayed/neutered to stop the breeding of outdoor cats.
They need big black ants to do,well
