I bought some rose seeds ,and don't know how to plant them? I looked online and someone said you have to do something like put in soil pod and let grow for 3 months before planting ? Is that right, I'm new at this and want to do it right. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tammy.

Growing roses from seed may prove challenging, since they require a period of simulated cold, also known as stratification, and germinate temperamentally. Rose seed germination may take anywhere from a few weeks to a few years, depending on the species. Once you see the seedling appear, however, roses can grow quite quickly. If you are trying to grow roses from seed, your best bet is to subject them to a period of simulated cold temperatures in the refrigerator before planting them in soil. Temperatures and timing vary, but usually rose seeds need a period of cold for around four months to simulate dropping to the soil in fall and remaining there throughout the winter before germinating in spring. You can also simply plant rose seeds in the ground in fall, although this method may be less reliable, and they will not appear before spring at the earliest.here's good site lots more info.http://scvrs.homestead.com/hybridizekb1.html

Oh, yes, Tammi. You need to start rose seeds inside in a small container like a cardboard egg carton filled with potting soil kept moist until the baby roots start showing. Then keep the roots growing in a very small glass of water until the root tendrils are an inch or more long. Then put them back into soil so the main stem gets strong enough to add to other stems and soil so they can form a rootball, which may take another month or two. When the rootball is as big as your fist, then you can plant it in a well-drained area with half-day sunshine. Best wishes!
