  • You need to put your dog on a medication like Revolution. If there are some in your house wash everything you can in hot water and use a carpet shampooer on carpet and upholstry

You really can't. Will need to use a flea poison several times to catch the eggs.

Household items will not work. Each female flea can lay 100's of eggs in her lifetime. Your dog needs to be treated with a flea medication from you vet. Not the junk you buy in stores. Many of them do not work. If you get Frontline or Sentinal or Advantage from your vet the problem should be better in no time. Sweep every area you dog lays daily and empty the container into a sealed bag and put in the outside trash. Flea eggs are as tiny as grains of salt. They will hide in your carpeting and roll into crevices in the floor. Sweep well. Your dog will be miserable until you get them treated and KEEP UP the treatment. Fleas carry a host of diseases. Also have him checked for heartworm. One mosquito can carry the potential to kill your pet. Cost is not an excuse.

  • You need to clean from top to bottom, every day for about a month or so.

We have a couple senior dogs and can't give them the oral meds as it will make them sick. You also need to treat your yard. Change bedding every day. It's a process, but you will win in the end. Just stay on top of it.

Vacuum, vacuum, vacuuummmm. Every day, sometimes twice. Despose of the vacuum bag outside, every time you vacuum. Wash dog bedding every day,if possible; if not, then, atleast every other day. I washed my dog down every day in the tub. Didn’t use soap because it dries out his skin, but fleas don’t like water ,they will jump off and you flush them down the drain. Get a flea comb. Comb as many out as you can. When you comb, have a bowl filled with water and dish soap. When you catch a flea dunk the comb in water to drowned them. That’s always very satisfying. Get flea meds. From the vet. It’s A LOT of work, but it is possible. Prolly takes about 6 -8 weeks.

Use a steam cleaner once a month to drown fleas and clear out the carpets.
