I like hanging copper pots, molds, platters, trays. Items kitchen related.
Barbara...You can buy plates at an antique store along with plate hangers and do a collage on the wall.
My kitchen is very small and not a lot of wall space, so hanging any useful kitchen ware is out of the question. But there is lots of coffee and tea being made in my kitchen, so I shopped the local Dollar Tree and found small framed prints of coffee & tea related pictures to hang in the small places. A few extra coffee mugs & tea cups on the counter top and now it looks cute and inviting. Coffee or tea anyone?
you could create a nice wooden backsplash for behing your sink
I have a very small kitchen that has two doorways and a window in both of the other two walls. I've collected "woven hot pads" (look it up on eBay) and my entire kitchen wall space has woven hot pads hanging from the ceiling to counter height space.

I too have a small kitchen sharing a space with the living room on the other end. I have a framed inspirational saying between one door and the cabinet, a small half-round miniature pot rack on the other side of the door holding my grandmother's kitchen utensils, then three vertical shelves above a cabinet and a plate rack with three plates above the microwave table. My colander, a set of measuring spoons and cups are above my stove. Somehow it works and is very cheerful. Oh, the windowsill above the sink is filled with colored bottles, my favorite decoration.
