Kitchen Canisters DIY Makeover
This set of kitchen canisters was left in the flip house we just bought. The people we bought the house from had two estate sales in the house before we bought it and the kitchen canisters never sold. When we were cleaning out the house, I saw them and walked by them not thinking twice. Then, when I started picking up the kitchen, I looked at them again and noticed the detail they had. The canisters were so dirty and the wood was not pretty so the detail didn’t stand out that well. I knew a little makeover was all they needed to transform them into something pretty again.
This is what the kitchen canisters looked like when I brought them home.
After I cleaned the kitchen canisters (which took forever), I put a couple of rough coats of {aff} “Drop Cloth” Dixie Belle Paint on each canister and lid. I didn’t want the paint to be perfect.
Once the paint was dry, I used “Enhance Glaze” from Velvet Finishes all over the canisters. Using the glaze made the detail and the words on the canisters stand out really well!
This set has come a long way. It had looked like it had been through the ringer when I brought it home and it still isn’t perfect, but I like the imperfections now. The paint and stain clung to different areas which made the pieces still look worn, but in a pretty way.
