Spring, and Easter especially, are my favorite seasons and holiday. I wanted to make a special swag for the front door as opposed to my usual wreath. Also, I wanted a spring theme to leave it up past the Easter season. This easy swag just dances in the sunlight and to me it sings of spring and joy. I love the warm color and fullness that makes it seem like spring is finally here.

I found these imitation greens at Walmart in the Easter decoration section, with all the party and gift ideas. They were my inspiration for the swag. The greens remind me of carrot tops, in a way. My favorite color is orange. It is such a warm color and the color of carrots. I did not make a "carrot" but I love the final look of my creation.

I located some faux bouquets of day lilies, gladiolas, and white baby's breath and roses. Next I dug out my craft green floral tape, and a flora block. Then I cut all the Stems off the bouquets and saved every green leaf and spare stem.

It is easier to work with a block if you hang it up with wire first on a wall or door to attach the flowers by pushing the stems into the block. I started at the top with the "carrot top" faux plants first, then the lilies and leaves and finally the gladiolas and a white sprig of blooms here and there.

Using "W's" I made out of the floral wire, I anchored the hanging wire and also some of the stems so they would not pull back out while hanging on the door. Our door is not wood, so I did not have a problem with the wire stems scratching it. But if you have a wood door, you may want to put floral tape over the ends of the wires after they poke through, to prevent scratches.

This is the finished swag and I used every piece of green leaves to cover the block on the bottom and sides. I used 4 gladiola stems and 3 day lily stems.

Here is the final swag and welcome sign on the front door. I bought the sign, but you can make one too. I just love it. I love the warm colors, welcome of spring, and change from a wreath this time. This was an easy do and since the "bouquets" include everything you need, there is no "artistic" talent needed to know what to add.

I could have added a colorful burlap bow and ribbon, but I felt it was complete by itself. If you like a bow, feel free to leave a little room close to the top for it. I did not use the floral tape, but I keep it on hand for projects.
