I always use a product called Terro. Works every time.
Mix up a little borax, sugar and warm water and then place in small lids in the areas they visit. They will pick it up and take back to the nest, eradicating the colony.

AMDRO ANT bait put it on trails, carried back to colony wipes it out in just few hrs don't let kids/ pets in bait I put something over it just don't disturb them on trail so they can continue going back to colony
