Jeanne....Cover with mod podge then use material or 1 ply napkins. Cover again with mod podge after placing napkins or material. You can tear the napkins using small pieces which makes it easier. Good luck!

Clean it well, first to remove any dust and wax
Apply the model podge directly to the surface. I've done this with fabric. Smooth it out to remove any air bubbles or wrinkles. Let it dry thoroughly before coating the top.
