How can I get rid of poison ivy in my yard and on the fence line?'
I've sprayed with something specific for p.i. and also Roundup, but the p.i. still keeps coming back.
Please do not use salt to kill anything in your yard. It kills the microbes in the soil and nothing will grow there. If you have a high water table, it can also leach into it.
I've found the best for poisonous vines is to use a commercial product that kills the roots so it doesn't come back next year.
If you snip it near the root, it will die and then you can remove it. That's what I do whenever I find it growing on our property.
I snip from the base, then apply a brush killer tryclopr to the stump with a small paint brush. This feels way better than spraying weed killer everywhere!
Vinegar will also kill anything that it touches and sterilizes the soil. There is no way to guarantee that home made weed killers will kill the root since it is really tenacious. I would go with a commercial product that is made for poison ivy for better results.

Call in a gardener that is used to using chemicals.
Hello Minnie Pearl, hope this helps you. Fill a garden sprayer with undiluted white vinegar. Spray the poison ivy leaves and crown. Avoid overspray on the surrounding soil. Repeat every few days until poison ivy dieback occurs, same goes true for the poison Oak.
Hello Minnie: Wear protective clothing and maybe even safety glasses. You can use a product called Ground Clear by Ortho. However, it will kill everything it touches, so put it in a spray bottle, or buy the spray, (the refill is cheaper, $5.97 for 24 oz vs $6.97 for a gallon Search Results for ground clear at The Home Depot) and spray the leaves, top and bottom. Put a tarp on the ground to catch any overflow. Also, and this is what I did, was to cut the plant down to about 6" from the ground, putting the cuttings into a bag. Then, I got a syringe filled with the ground clear and injected the remaining stem in several places, and the top. The plant will take the poison to the roots, killing the plant. You may have to do this a couple of times, but it works.
