What is the best way to get rid of poison ivy?

Dissolve one cup of salt in a gallon of water and add one tablespoon of liquid dish soap. Pour this solution in a spray bottle and spray it directly on the poison ivy. Gretta, be sure to wear long pants and long sleeves to apply this solution. This mixture will kill anything it touches, so be careful to get it only on the vegetation you want to kill. Skip the chemicals. I just did this with my girlfriend. We suit up, cut it down to ground level, mark the bags for the refuse collectors, then liberally douse the area plain old white vinegar or cleaning vinegar. Needs to be reapplied after every rain event. If you want to go stronger, you can use agricultural strength vinegar.

I'm highly allergic to PI and it's very tough to kill. Be careful you don't drench near plants you don't want to kill by accident. As much as I don't like chemicals systemics are safer for nearby plants if you keep them protected. Drenching the soil will harm all the plants in the area.

Hi Gretta, hope this helps you. Try cutting the vine about 6" above where it comes out of the ground. Put some full strength white vinegar on both of the cut ends by dipping them into a cup full of white vinegar. Do this all along the length of the vines. Repeat if necessary. by doing it this way, you are only killing the ivy.
