How long can a ceiling fan down pole be?
I am in need of an eight ft. down pole for a ceiling fan, Can not seem to find one more than 72 in. Any ideas?

Go to an electrical and lighting specialty store. Stability would be the most important factor in extending a pole that far and they would be the best advisors in this situations.

Hi Faye, I definitely agree that you'll want to make sure a longer down pole won't add instability etc. I'm wondering if galvanized plumbing pipe would work? Then you could just go in to a hardware store or a store like home depot and have them cut a pipe as long as you want and they will also thread the ends for you. You could then spray paint it any color you like.
How tall are your ceilings? I'd talk to an electrician first before doing a DIY. You might need a larger fan instead of lowering it.
You can use a pvc pipe. Drill holes in it to run the cord/chain through.
