I'm afraid the tension rods won't hold up to rain or wind. Need something more permanently attached.
need to use wood dowel rods or metal pipe place clip style curtain holders/shower curtain clip style on rods clip on canvas tarps or sew a rod pocket much more secure way to hold curtains on (you can use a stapler & gorilla glue or E 6000 water proof adhesives if you do not sew to create a rod pocket) or add tabs or holes with grommets for rod to slide thru.here are some videos/ideas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTuXs0BBT14 more to look thru https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=DIY+canvas+drop+cloth+patio+curtains

I would suggest purchasing a cantilever umbrella.
They are very versatile, as they can provide shade at various levels, and angles, and can also be adjusted to provide more or less privacy.

Hi ! They make Sun shades , I bought mine at Costco for $20. You attach it to 3 or 4 spots depending on its shape ,attach to 2 points on house and a free or a post . They work well and are easily removable .
No , but all you need is a screw with an "0" at the end ( can be found at any hardware store ) to tie a string to or a bungee cord hook to . The sun shade has
holes with grommets on the corners .
Wow thanks like that idea Pam
You can get shower curtains instead of drop cloth cloth the lets the light thru. Hang them instead of the cloth and use the shower curtain rings to pull to where you want the shade to be.
