You spray poison ivy with an herbicide, it may take daily treatments. As to the bamboo digging it up may help, but both need all the roots out.

The only other way I know is to burn bamboo out.

Hi Irene, her is a natural recipe.

Use a natural spray. Dissolve one cup salt in a gallon of water and add a tablespoon of dish soap to create a solution that can be sprayed on poison ivy. While this method of killing poison ivy is effective in the short run, it will probably require future treatments to keep the ivy at bay.

  • First, never burn poisin ivy. You can get really sick!

Burning has never been an option where I live. For bamboo, we cut down to ground level, then dug out what we could then drowned the area repeatedly with white vinegar. We had kids and pets, so no chemicals could be used. Took a few seasons, but it worked.

For poison ivy, I just did this with my girlfriend like we do every year. Suit up. Dig out. Mark bags for trash service so they don't get contaminated. Drown the area in vinegar repeatedly. Reapply after every rain event. Then take a shower immediately. Then wash your clothes. Keep everything quarantined so you don't get a rash.
