How do I paint a shutter?
I have some ugly brown shutters that I want to paint white. I want to actually use them as window shutters so it is important that all of the working parts move and work. So How do I insure that when I paint my shutters that they don't get bound up by the paint?

It's best to remove them before you paint. Can you take the hardware off - paint them and then reinstall?
Clean well then spray paint with Rustoleum 2X, also known as Painter's Touch. You can use any brand that you want but I have been satisfied with this brand in all sorts of applications, indoors or out. Works well on plastic, wood, or metal.
Yep I would remove them, and remove any hardware (or tape it off with painters tape if you can't remove it.
Brenda...I would use spray paint and YES remove first!
A paint sprayer will get in nooks and crannies. It would be easier to remove them if they are mounted to prevent overspray. I lubricate moving parts with a product like wd40, and then wrap foil, saran wrap or painter's tape on any areas I want to protect. Vaseline can also protect a surface from paint, but can be messy if you aren't careful.
