How can I create a 6 foot circle of paving blocks or bricks?
I would like to pave an area around a fire ring.
You can actually set in concrete or dig down and half bury
them vertically or horizontally.

You will need to trench out an area twice the thickness of the brick you are using. Buy some premixed mortar at one of your home Improvement centers, and set your brick in the trench then pour your dry mix mortar on both sides of your brick, and gently wet the mix. Make sure you keep you brick lined up. After it sets for a day or so fill back in the dirt along both sides of your brick.
These are great ideas. You can lay brick flat or turn on edge. Good luck!
