Hi Linda, if you want to clean the brass so it looks better you can use a product called Brasso. However, if you want to change up the look you could clean it well and spray paint it and then stencil or decoupage it to suit what you'd like it to look like. I redid one a long time ago. Painted the inside a bright turquoise and the outside a sedate black. It seemed to make the mail man smile. You could glam it up by applying a few "jewels" or even those flat glass rounds available at the Dollar store.
Well, now I must glam up my plain old black mailbox!!!! What a terrific idea. I just love it. Don't know if the HOA who has us all standardized will but I'll bejewel it without going to the nines. I'll do that extra glam on a pot next to it because threes just work, right?
