Power wash it very well. Then paint a more modern color. Use paint made to paint metal.
Clean the awning well, let dry, and then spray with a good paint for aluminum. Usually white awnings look best either from the inside or outside.

I recently powerwashed my patio cover which is aluminum. I used Zep power wash cleaner. Looks brand new.
