Brenda...Apple cider vinegar, water, sugar and Dawn...spray or put in small bowels.
Hi Brenda,
If they are inside, the best way is by prevention, meaning, they come in as eggs on your fruit and vege's. So when you arrive home with these, immediately wash and refrigerate, this kills the eggs. For the drain where you have them, use 1/2 cup baking soda and follow with 1 cup white vinegar, when the fizzing stops rinse with a good amount of hot water. You might want to consider keeping your drains covered.
Now for this airborn gnats, get a sticky cardboard trap-you can get these at Walmart really cheap in the pest control section, these are the ones for catching mice. On that trap, place a small piece of sweet decaying fruit, they will be drawn to it and land on the cardboard, stuck for good.

If you really have a lot of them in the house, put up one of those fly strips you tack to the ceiling. They may be ugly, but they will help eliminate them quicker. Take out garbage frequently, they will go to it and eat and breed, even if it is covered they can get in the can. Also check to see if they are in your plants, if they are, you will need to clean the pot, discard the soil in the garbage, gently rinse the plants and roots with tepid water before you repot in New potting soil. Those gnats will be fungal gnats that are breeding in the soil.
This works for me - I invert a paper cone into a pint canning jar in which I have placed a one inch slice of banana. You must first cut a slight piece off the point of the cone so gnats can crawl in, but not crawl out.
I had a terrible gnat problem and the vinegar traps worked perfectly! Simply place a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar or white vinegar, a few drops of dish soap, and a tablespoon of sugar in a bowl and stir. Set your bowl in an area where gnats are prevalent, such as your kitchen or bathroom. This took care of my problem in just a couple of days!
