How do I keep ants out of my hummingbird feeder?
We've used vaseline before and it works well. They also sell products specific for that which will kill the ants. Check your local home store or look online for the best product. It's very sticky though so whatever you put it on, you'll see that residue for a long long time.
I've used vaseline and Vicks Vaporub.
There should be an ant killer that can kill or trap them on the pole.
Absolute best way I've found is to hang them instead of having them on a pole, but if that's not an option... You need to be a little careful with the vaseline - you don't want it anywhere that the hummingbirds can accidentally get into it. Another option (might be in the links above, I didn't check them) is to create what's called an "ant moat". This is basically a dish of water that's between your attachment point to the pole and the top of your feeder. You have to make it secure enough that the water doesn't just drip out, but it keeps the ants from getting to your nectar since they drown in the water before they can get down to the good stuff.
