I’ve read about how to paint tile but will it stand up over time in the shower area of a tub? And what do you seal it with

    Hi Jane,

Any paint job will last longer if you do ALL of the preparation work. A lot of people will skip steps thinking that they are not important. There is truly no way we can say how long it will last because it depends on how well you did the prep, if you got the right materials, possibly the condition that it's in right now and how much/what kind of use it gets. My suggest is to read as much as you can about the process and also find videos on youtube.com that you can watch. Here's one video to get you started. Wishing you the best.

Your only hope for a lasting job is to use the epoxy kits made for tile. Nothing lasts forever, but you'll get several years out of those. Once scratched will peel. I tell my clients it will buy you some time to save up for a remodel.

I recommend rustoleum tub and tile kits

  • Painting tile in a tub/shower area likely won't last for the long haul. Even if done by a pro, it only lasts so long. Prep is key and making sure you use the proper products will help it last a bit but you'll need to plan for redoing or replacing the tile eventually.
