Brown paint. First layer lighter then the second layer. While the dark layer is still wet use a wood grain tool and drag thru. The result should give you a wood look. A wood grain tool is a rubber type of stamp that will mimic the wood grain pattern.
As mentioned above brown paint and a wood grain tool will give you the wood look with grain. I have seen the tool at Home Depot so it should be easily found elsewhere too.
Second option is Shabby Paints wood gel stain (Look under vax and revax). You won't have the grain but you will get a wood look especially combining a couple shades. I have no affiliation. Check out the website at:

Also there are a lot of great pics of peoples projects on the Facebook page of Shabby Paints Q&A at:

You can do a faux graining technique with paint to look like wood. There are actual tools for that sold a stand alone paint store. Watch you tube tutorials on graining to learn how to do it. Looks really cool. Make sure you use exterior paint if doing the outside.
Use a woodgrain roller.
If you want a faux wood grain, then I suggest to learn about the dry-brushing -method. That works perfectly for fake wood grain.
Retique-It is a product that has wood in it . You paint it on and you can stain over it and seal it for outdoor use. Look online or on Facebook. There’s a group just for this. It looks like an amazing product!
Surprisingly, General Finishes gel stain gives a wood look over garage doors. There are some amazing tutorials online, but the basic idea is wiping it on in the same direction like wood grain is what gives it that effect!
section at the home goods store
there is a rolling tool that simulates wood grain. It should be available in your craft section at the local Walmart of Target, or in the painting

Hope this helps.
The above video is the best representative I have seen. The wood stamps and woodgrain rollers are pretty self explanatory. Get a scrap piece and work with it prior to actually using it on the door.

Hi,
First rub the door down to give the new finish a key, then us a colour paint that matches the type of wood you wish to produce. Give it a good coverage (I use a Matt or Satin finish. Then when completely dry, dry brush a thick varnish to make the grain of the wood. When dry and you are satisfied with result. Varnish over the lot to preserve. It might be worth you trying out the process before attempting to re-finish the front door!
Home Depot sells a roller that puts wood gain on the surface.paint a med tan on the door first then get a darker brown and roll in paint first dab some off then start at top left and go all the way down to the bottom then line up at top and go down again keep going

You will need to purchase a paint that is formulated to look like wood. You might need to mix a couple of paints to get the look you are wanting. Check out Heirloom Traditions site. I saw some very impressive techniques on there that should help you.
