Hi Tina there’s a little plug in that’s made to go into your wall outlet they work pretty good, no poison . I’m not sure if that’s the
“ best” but they worked very well for us.
Rats are everywhere. Best to clean up your yard so they have no reason to visit. Take in bird feeders at night, don't leave pet food outside.

Think twice about poison if you have ets or children. Plus a danger to wildlife. If you use poison, and then a rat dies, another animal will eat the dead rat and it will also get sick and die, and so on. Or call in an exterminator. I live in a semi rural area and we all have fruit trees and gardens. A certain amount of rodents are to be expected. Keeping a tidy home and yard is the best defense.
Tina...If you don't have animals you can roll d-CON with peanut butter into balls and throw under your house...are they actually rats or mice?
I have been able to get rid of them at our farmhouse, even when we bushhog, by using a combination of peppermint & cinnamon oil. I purchased a spray off Amazon but have seen it at Ace Hardware. It can be sprayed or saturate cotton balls. Place around and make sure to re-apply as the scent fades. They don’t like the smell. I’ve been told it can be toxic to pets.
