Rather than replacing my damaged hollow doors, I would like to fix them and paint them. Any suggestions on how to repair holes that are fairly big?

If it’s not rusted, then I’d sand the seam and use a 2-part epoxy with furniture clamps.

That might prove to be pretty difficult. If the door is coming apart and you don't have the resources or skills to replace it you can purchase the fiber repair tape. Start by using some wide clamps at the top and bottom of the door to bring the sides together. Then cover with the tape where it's separating (clean the door first so you get the best adhesion).
Karen....Wood glue will work but you will need to use clamps until it dries. Good luck
