How can I re-purpose a fake fireplace?

I am always a fan of creating storage. Is there room to put in shelves where the "fire " was? Or bins? I'm thinking of how it could be used for storage in a mudroom or entryway.

If the materials used to make the faux fireplace originally were not rated for outdoors, it will not last in exterior weather conditions.

I would be interested in knowing what the Garden Faux Fireplace above was constructed from.

I put quite a number of items in my garden that aren't made for outdoors although the one above looks like the metal box and grating. No, they don't last forever but once I'm finished using something inside, there is no loss using it as decor for a few years. Painting/spraying with UV poly prolongs the life.
