Hi Sheila. Most tulips should be planted in late Fall (November) before the the ground freezes. Go down 6 to 8 inches and plant the bulb with roots facing down. Tulips prefer full or afternoon sun. Space them 4 inches apart.

You need to plant them in the Fall to enjoy them in the Spring. You can plant them anytime, but if you plant them too late they won't bloom until the next Spring.
