This tutorial suggests using nail polish: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ePQ_Alo57jw
Here are the top 10 kits for this type of issue. I would start with buff type solutions before trying to paint it. If you decide to paint the scratch and the vehicle isn't very old, you can get touch up paint that is an exact match from the dealership's parts department. You will need your VIN. However, if the vehicle has been in the elements and is more than 1-2 years old there will be a fade difference. especially if it is a dark color.
Ebony...Can you buff it out? You could find little nail polish sized bottles of paint in auto part stores for touch ups...not sure if they still have them or not.
Hi Ebony: There are little vials of paint to match your car. Take the make, model, vin, year and colour of your car to any auto shop, like Pep Boys, O'Rilleys, Napa, etc., and they will match your colour. You just paint it on like nail polish. Or, if the scratch isn't deep, you can use a buffing compound on it. Good luck
When dealing with a deep scratch we can assume that the scratch has gone through the clear coat, paint, and primer to expose bare metal. This means that you’ll want to replace each of these layers. You’ll need touch up primer, color-matched touch up paint, and touch up clear coat. To get color-matched paint for your car or truck the best bet is to go to your local car dealership’s parts department and order touch up paint specific to your make, model, and color car or truck.
Gently dab with a fine brush and the touch up primer into the cleaned scratch or chip. you’re just trying to give it a good coating. It shouldn’t completely fill the gap made by the scratch. You only should apply primer to the exposed metal, not the entire scratch.
Once the touch up primer has dried you’ll repeat the process with the color-matched touch up paint. Ideally this will come close to filling the scratch. You may need to build up a couple layers of paint to help it fill the gap more. The smoother you can apply it the better. Remember, if you want a perfect repair you’ll need to have an auto body shop repaint the area. We’re trying to protect the metal and get the problem area less noticeable.
Last you will need to apply some touch up clear coat. Applying a layer of clear coat will help the color match the rest of the car much better. Without clear coat the color will be slightly different and stand out much more than when coated with a layer of clear over top.
If you're looking for just straight cover-up a vinyl decal sticker or magnet would do it. Amazon has thousands that are inexpensive and come in a ton of different styles and colors.
This has good reviews on Amazon: https://amzn.to/37h0BnJ
You cold use a decal-Amazon is a good source for them. However, I would first repair the scratch so it would not runt underneath the scratch. Depending on how deep it is, if all the way to the base metal, then either get it professionally repaired or try do do it yourself. First clean & dry the area, next is to paint on the primer and then let it dry. Next is to match the color as best as you can and fill in with a paintbrush to the thickness of the original paint, let dry then finally is the clear coat. You may want to put a good coat of wax.
If the home job looks unacceptable, then a decal may help.
If the scratch is not that deep, maybe a good buffing would do the trick.
Get a marker the same color I did it with my white van you can’t see any chips get paint the same color and a tiny brush
You can get a paint stick to match the paint from the truck manufacturer. If they don't make it anymore try something close, I had a scratch I went over with a similar color and you can barely see it now.
