Can you give me tips on creating a perfect craft room?
Hi everyone! So I'm going to move into a spot with so much more space than previously and will have the option to have a room devoted to making. I am an enthusiastic knitter, energized amateur spinner, energized novice quilter, and anxious apprentice sewist.Basically I need to conceptualize a wonderful space where I can fit these expressions together in agreement and absence of spasm. Would you be able to share me your thoughts/wants for your fantasy create room?crossposted to knitting and sewing since I need bunches of feelings from alternate points of view.

I have my sewing machine, cricut, eliptical, stationary bike, and computer in 1 room. I painted it in 12" stripes and have set zones for each type of activity. It's not a huge room, probably 16 x 12, but it works well. I keep supplies in the closet which seems to cut down on the clutter appearance best.

Hi Elliesh. My fantasy work room would have a couple peg boards to hang tools. There would be a big table under the peg boards for a work station. I would have a chair with lumbar support. (I have a bad back) I would keep my sewing machine at one end of this table. There would be a cover for my sewing machine for when it was not being used. On the other side of the room there would be shelves. A lot of shelves. I would use clear bins with lids to organize yarns and fabrics. And I would store these bins on the shelves.
Hi! What a wonderful thing to plan! What do you like to do while creating? For example, I sometimes watch tv, but, more often I listen to a book on my kindle or my phone. I like lots of natural light in addition good artificial lighting. I like a table to work on, lots of storage, soft colors on the walls and floor. Artwork and crafts displayed. Comfy seating. A vision board on the wall to plan and dream about projects. Make it uniquely your own!
Hi Elliesh,
I have just sorted my outside craft room. Essentials are: Desk with drawers to Craft at and to sit my sewing machine on. Comfortable craft chair and an Armchair where I can enjoy Knitting etc. whilst looking out into the garden. I also have Chest of Drawers for storage and a folding kitchen table for cutting out fabrics etc. An ironing board + Iron(could double as craft table) and a Dressmakers dummy! and some shelves for Craft Books etc., a Mirror and a clock and a radio. Oh I forgot a Brush and pan for the mess at times. Hope that helps, happy crafting.........
I love 3 tier carts for storage. I keep my sewing machine, fabric, spools of thread, etc. on one. Maybe you could put fabric or yarn in a couple of them. https://www.target.com/p/pemberly-row-3-tier-rolling-utility-cart-with-storage-in-white/-/A-79363542
I suggest having a large tale built at a height that you can easily stand and cut fabric, especially if you are going to quilt. It will provide you surface space to cut fabric and spread out the uilt parts as you work and also serve as a good cutting area for sewing clothess, proojects, etc. Beneath it ou could have organized storage bins with your spae fabric, yarn, etc. Or instead of bins you might house rolling carts with supplies. You can also go up the walls and use space to a great advantage, either peg board to attach many tools such as sicissors, threads, etc. Comfortable chair for sewing is imperative. You can use cardboard boxes covred with fabric, contact paper, wall paper, or even painted to keep your supplies organized and looking nice. What works well for others may not work well for you, but as you build your room and customize it as you work on projects you'll surely end up with your crafty happy space! Good luck....it's wonderful that you will have a room just to create!
Hi Elliesh, I still swear by cube storage for storage of anything that will fit in them, you can stack them and have all labelled and organized, they take up on 1 foot of space off the wall!
One of the best storage places is to create and area with peg board to hang items you use most like scissors, punches etc. Get containers online made for pegboards that hold things like craft brushes even little shelves to put glue and paint are made for pegboards.
