Hi this is Peggy. Sorry you have mineral build up in your water heater. Hope this helps you. Pour a gallon of vinegar, acidic tub and tile cleaner or other commercial lime cleaner, one cup at a time, pausing after each cup, into the cold water inlet pipe. Pausing between cups prevents gas build-up. Wait a few hours and drain the tank. The cleaner should have dissolved all or most of the deposits.Jul 17, 2017

You should drain your water heater at least once a year to prevent build up of sediments in the bottom. Also, remove and clean all the filters on each faucet. If they work on the water lines in your area it will cause additional sediments in the supply lines.

Hi RR. Two of the most effective chemicals for combating mineral buildup are vinegar and lye. To clean with vinegar or lye, you must flush the solution out completely. And then refill your water heater.
Check the manufacturer's website or manual and it should tell you the exact steps for flushing them out.

Hello RR,
You can buy an additive to put in the system, but first of all you have to drain the whole thing down first to do it.
Before you do anything, check your owner's manual that came with your hot water heater, it has the how to's telling you when and what you need to do. If you no longer have that reference, you could contact the company with the make and model numbers, they can either talk you through it of send your the instructions specific to what your appliance is. Best to you.
