Does white gel stain work well on furniture?
Hi there! I’m a huuuge fan of gel stain, Java is my go to. I’ve looked on several media sites for using and visualizing white gel stain on my golden oak, 80’s style kitchen cabinets! I love the grain they have, just not too fond of the color. Has any fellow hometalkers used white gel stain on furniture? Pics would be amazing too. Thanks bunches 😀

I love the grain too, Jackie, and one way to test it is on the back of one of the drawers or doors.
Jackie: I think Ann's idea is brilliant!
White stain looks good for a beachy look!
I've used white stain on oak before and it worked great but you need to wash down with TSP then lightly sand the sheen off. Will need to apply a top clear coat when finished.
I have used gel stain and it works great on small pieces of furniture
If you don't get the desired effect from gel stain, I have had really good luck with rustoleum in the quart, roll or brush it on and wipe off and it leaves the perfect amount to color the wood, but show the grain.
I used it only once and found it looked a little unfinished for my taste.
Hi Jackie. Yes, you can use white gel stain on wood. Be sure to sand your cabinets first, and then wipe them down and clean them really well. Good luck Jackie.
I refinished my oak table awhile back. I had a heck of a time doing it the way the manufacturer said to, had to go back and figure it out. It looks great and held up well. I will attach the link for it.

I agree with Morgan, it does give a beachy look to wood. In my opinion it makes the room look casual, something that would support sheer curtains, sea shells, gulls...
Ann does have a good suggestion-try it on the back of a drawer and see if you like it.
No
Thanks!
