How can I replace the sorta "V" shaped part?
This is from a metal folding closet door from my 1979 house. When I took the doors down to move them to another closet, I somehow lost the V part. Second picture shows another of these parts with the V and first photo shows it installed in another closet. It's 6.5" long. I tried to get a V from Lowe's but the man I spoke to had no idea what it was and looked for something similar but didn't find anything. I found this online https://www.swisco.com/Bifold-Door-Pivot/pd/Bifold-Door-Pin-Assemblies/21-078 that's similar but a bit shorter so I don't think it will work. Also, it has a push pin instead of the V and the directions say that once it's installed, it has to be broken to be removed. I don't like that idea. Seems like since the V keeps the rod in place that something else could substitute for it. Any idea what? Or, do you know where I can buy a V or the entire part?

I found this link for you. Hopefully they have something. Otherwise, I wonder if a metal fabrication shop could make one for you.

Go to amazon.com and check out what they have (and they have a lot).
From my reading, that piece is called an installation clip and it doesn't appear to be required in order for the door to work. Here is a site showing it - you could email them for the piece.

The closest thing I found was called a bifold door pivot rod.
I once lost the side hardware for a dressing table mirror when I was refinishing it. I finally tracked down what it was called, searched for the right ones, ordered them, installed them and was still baffled what happened to the original. One day a few weeks later I moved a large wooden cable reel I was turning into a table, when I heard something rattle. They had fallen into the middle of the reel, apparently after I set them on it. I had torn that area apart but never moved that heavy wooden reel. In other words, before you make yourself crazy replacing it, check where you keep the tools you were using, any boxes, ledges, the closet, the closet shelf or tables nearby (and under them) etc. It might save you some time and money. Good luck!
That V clip is adjustable up and down by squeezing the two ends together. it increases and loosens the tension on the spring.

Check ace hardware. Our stores carry some hard to find parts for 70’s closets hardware. Mil lost some and they had it.
