Scratched wall from zippers?
I have wall hooks and our coat zippers are scratching the wall. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to stop this?

You could add wood to the wall, like a section of beadboard to the wall behind where the coats hang. Paint it with a several coats of good quality paint.
Hello Sharon! I have wall hooks too where we hang our coats in the entry. We have never encountered this problem. My hooks are attached to a strip of wood that is mounted to the wall so perhaps my hooks protrude farther away from the wall. You might consider that or perhaps hooks that are longer and protrude farther away from the wall. I doubt that anyone would take the time to zip up their coat before they hung it on a hook but that would probably help too.
Hi Sharon,
Without seeing what you have as far as coathooks and how they are attached to the wall (from a board with the coathooks or directly into the wall). I can only suggest a couple of things.
1.Hang the coats with the zipper away from the wall, in other words, hang them with the zipper facing away from the wall toward the middle of the room-putting the outside of the coat against the wall. This will take some retraining.
2.Get longer coat hooks-this will put more space between the coat zippers and the wall.
3.Put up a scratch proof barrier beneath the coat hooks and extending it down the wall. A suggestion would be peel and stick tile-available at diy stores, Amazon.
Best to you.
I would add something to the wall under the hooks that is more durable. I love the look of reclaimed wood on a wall.
You could even use some art work to protect the wall. Like a poster board with cool hand lettering that says "Hang it up!" or "I've got you!"
If you can't change your hooks, consider installing a plexiglass portion to protect the wall.
Hi there, I was gonna suggest what Scarlet already suggested. A poster board of a picture you like could be secured to the wall and serve double duty as protection and art work.
Turn them away from the wall or put a decorative section of removable wallpaper or other wall decor like a canvas where they hit.
I woukd consider a fabric covered piece of foam core poster board or even sheet insulation that can be found at big box hardware stores.
You could either leave the foam board covered with fabric as a decorative feature or paint the fabric the same color as the wall.
Hi Sharon
You could add a piece of peg board on that wall (it comes in colors at Home Depot and is in different sizes) and then it would stop the wall from being scratched and also you could have an area to hang hats, gloves and scarfs by adding hooks for hanging
Another idea would to be to add a piece of plexi glass (it is clear) to take the scratches instead of your wall
