Outdated Buffet to up Cycled Dresser Hutch
My standard dresser was just not cutting it, and between my husband and I we had 3 different smaller dressers in our room. I need to come up with an idea and size was not a problem with my large bedroom. So when I happened upon this gem at Habitat for Humanity I fell in love with it. I knew a little paint could make this little baby look wonderful.
It just happened that it was marked down to 30 some odd dollars extra score. All I had to do was convince my husband and get him to help me move it home. Bingo!
I don’t know about you, but many times I’ve taken the doors off to paint but once I put them back up they never just hang right. So I’ve gotten in the habit that I will take contact paper or whatever and mark each door and its placement so that I know it’ll get put back in its correct spot. And it is helped me 1 million times
I had an old contact paper laying around so I used it to help with my taping off. I was able to write on the contact paper the placement of the door and it helped with not having to use a ton of masking tape.
I remove the knobs and puttied the holes from the metal ornate back of knob.
I decided to leave the wood tone on the inside of the cabinet knowing that you would not be able to see inside once I covered glass with a spray frosting. I pre-wipe down the whole thing with liquid sander and got ready to do the basecoat.
No special paint just wanted a gray base and I had some oops paint laying around. I knew that I was going to do dry brush layers of paint for demision and the weathered look.
I wanted it to look like a weathered old fence so are used black, white, and gray. Just your regular crafters acrylic paints. A chip brush for every color and I just stroked it all over the exterior to give it dimension and that weather look.
Took a sanding block to knock down any raised layers of paint. Then put a clear polyurethane over the top.
When my paint was all dry I put back on all cabinet doors and remove my painters tape and contact paper. Once I cleaned glass with alcohol I applied Krylon glass frosting to the glass. Takes many coats of this and it is very messy so I would do it outside. I added black box knobs that I had found at hobby lobby. and of course added the old ones to my repurposing stash.
The final version! this thing is huge 8 feet long we have storage galore. You can see the clothes and T-shirts through the frosted glass but I think it brings more personality to it. As far as organizing my husband’s T-shirts and shorts and what have you all we need is this one cabinet and we love it. Would love to hear your opinions and hope you enjoy.

That’s awesome I love what you did. I too need more dresser space but I don’t have enough room in my bedroom for anymore dressers. This though I could find something a little shorter but tall. Thanks for the idea 😊
