If you use strap brackets there is no need for the bricks around the pergola legs unless the bricks are for looks only.

Hi Kim. You could make circular flower beds around your pergola legs. Make them 3 or 4 bricks high and then put down weed fabric to reduce the need to weed. Put plants in that will climb up the pergola legs. You could plant clematis, wisteria, bougainvillea, English ivy, honeysuckle or morning glory. They will be good choices and they all vine. I hope this info will help you Kim. Good luck.

Do you want the bricks to add support for the pergola legs, or will they have a decorative purpose only?
HI Kim,
Lay one brick lengthways in front of pergola , next lay brick end on then lengthways and then end on. That should give you a square around the Leg. Repeat only start with end on first., so that joints are not in same place as previous round. Continue on in this way until you reach height required. Hope that helps a bit!
