A good way is to add more plants. Lily pads and cattails absorb the nutrients that algae need to grow.
Hello Lela,

You need shading plants, oxygenating plants, and filtering plants. Once you put the proper plants in with the fish the algae problem should be almost be eliminated.
GO ask at a pet store. They have all kinds of products you can put into tanks, and some specially made for ponds and tanks in high sun areas. They kill the bad algae. After the pond is cleaned out, buy a few algae eating fish, they should keep it cleaner.
Apple snails would eat the algae that is growing on the sides of your pond.
I use bleach water solution, or go to a pet store and buy some aquatics.
If you have a pond with fish or plants I would not use bleach. It is toxic. Here are some ideas for you.

Once you clean it out (we use water and scrub brush, no chemicals) and then we added an algae light. Works amazing...you can read about it here. https://www.exquisitelyunremarkable.com/2019/07/keeping-pond-water-clear-without-chemicals.html
After using an algaecide Granddaughters dipped water to water plants. I reclaimed a Swiffer handle, taped a toilet brush to it. They scrubbed the sides as the water level went down. I'm going to establish a variety of plants before adding fish. Thanks everyone for the ideas.
