Scratches can be repaired with fine steel wool. From your picture, it almost looks like there is something else under the finish. Am I correct?
Sue: Ann always gives good advice... I agree with her... I think this table might merely have a stainless "finish" -- you could probably get some matching paint and use a q-tip to touch up. (You may want to check out metallic craft paint at Michaels)
In addition to the above comments by Ann and Nan, Jan thinks you should also consider finding a good food-grade clear coat to protect the surface once you've fixed the cosmetic problem. Take your time with researching what's best. I'm thinking a really good option (if you're up for it) would be Stone Coat resin for countertops. Watch a few videos - even here on Hometalk - and follow all the directions. Your table will be able to withstand just about anything after that. Best of luck. I LOVE stainless tops!
Stainless doesn't chip. Must be an applied finish. I would need to know what it was before I could advise.
Touch up with a matching paint and top off with a protective cover of clear nail polish or polyurethane. Stainless steel can't chip.

How can I repair a chip in an old metal top kitchen table?
Hello. I would attempt to disguise it with paint. Is the surface in contact with food? There are many craft metallic paints available mixing up a combination of them might be an easy and cost-effective option.
